Alright, I just watched A Cinderella Story and I feel inspired to take on Cinderella for #fairytalefridays this week. If you’ve not watched the movie, it is delightfully cheesy and a perfect trip down memory lane for millennials (hello IM screen name nostalgia). If you’d rather get your retelling in book form, give one of these novels a try!
Stepsister by Jennifer Donnelly: Isabella, one of Cinderella’s stepsisters, has the chance to change her fate and the possibility of redemption in this lyrical, character-driven tale with a complex, strong female lead.
Cinderella is Dead by Kalynn Bayron: When Sophia’s night at the ball goes horribly wrong, she runs for her life and meets someone who shows her she has the power to remake her world in this fast-paced intricately plotted story.
Rogue Princess by B.R. Myers: A rebellious princess on a failing planet must marry in order to save her people, but, hoping for true love, she steals a spaceship and finds a handsome stowaway in this sci-fi retelling with strong world-building.
Geekerella by Ashley Poston: In this engaging, fun romance, a devoted fan of a sci-fi television series enters a contest to win an invitation to a ball where she would meet her favorite actor.
Ash by Malinda Lo: Ash must chose between a handsome fairy cursed to love her and the King’s Huntress whom she loves in this romantic, lush, and lyrical story.
What’s your favorite Cinderella retelling? What fairytale should we do next?
